A woman and her car crashed into our house!
Last night around 11pm Adam and I were just trying to relax before bed. Zeke was still wide awake which is horrible because it was a school night. We ran out of melatonin though so he just played in his room in the dark. Kai had moved to our bed since he couldn’t fall asleep with his little brother making noise and opening the blinds. There is a street light that shines right into the windows at night and Zeke loves it. Kiana was passed out in bed already sleeping peacefully.
I heard tires squeeling then a loud crash!
Holy smokes someone just hit the side of our house! Time just stopped for a minute in my mind….then I realized the person hit the house right where my kids bedrooms are. I ran into my daughters room to see if the car came through the wall. She was there laying in bed fast asleep still. Luckily the car did not come through the wall…but in my panic I yelled out her name and she screamed and jumped out of bed. We ran out of the bedroom and to her brothers room to check on Zeke. He was fine and no damage to their room. We then ran back into the living room. My husband had looked out the living room window and decided we needed to go outside to check on the driver of the car.
We could here the driver trying to take off and leave the scene. I also heard a mans voice yell, ” Hey that’s a felony!” My husband yelled for me to dial 911 so with some fumbling around I got it dialed in. I didn’t think I had connected but when I said hello?! The dispatcher answered. I asked if this was 911 and she said yes what is your emergency. I remember saying,” someone just crashed into my house!!! ### ##### St Longview, WA!” I told Kiana my 14 year old daughter to stay in the house. Without shoes out the door I ran. The main door is on the right side of the house and the wreck was on the left side of the building so I ran around the house to the fence.
My Heart Was Racing As I Ran to the Scene of the Car Crash
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the scene. Our fence was no longer straight. The car had pushed it all the way to the house and as she tried to tried to back up she was peeling out on the sidewalk. Neighbors from across the street on another corner ran over to help as well and keep her from leaving. The guy opened her car door and the woman driver said she was fine and needed to see her son. I told the dispatcher that the woman was bleeding from her head including her mouth. The dispatcher told me help was on the way. I could see the lights from the police cars coming down the street. I let her know that help was within view and gave her my contact info and hung up.
Flashing Red and Blue Lights Came Flying Down the Street Towards Our Home
Three or four police cars, a firetruck and an ambulance pulled up all within seconds of each other. A police officer came over to talk to me about what I saw or heard. People started lining up down the street to find out what all of the commotion was. The neighbors who were standing by the woman also did not see the wreck but ran out when they heard the crash. I just kind of stood there not knowing what to do and also not wanting to be in the way. I did call our landlord and left a message about the whole situation so maybe he could swing by to see the damages on his way to work.
I Felt Helpless Standing Barefoot in my Yard Watching the Commotion
It seemed like forever with a lot of questions from police and I guess I was kind of in shock as well from the whole situation. After a while the tow truck showed up.
The Car that Crashed into My House Wouldn’t Move
When the tow truck operator got in the car hoping to just put it in reverse and back it onto the truck he got a surprise. The tires just sat there and spun in the grass. After further investigation they realized that the car was stuck on a fence post and that is what was keeping the car in that spot. Thankfully the fence post was there and the woman was not able to just drive away from the scene that night.
Glad That is Over With
An officer gave me the case number just in case I needed any help, had more questions and for insurance purposes. After the car was towed they examined the road and found no sign of skid marks. They didn’t smell alcohol on the woman’s breath either so they are thinking it might have been a medical emergency.
No Rest for Four of Us on this Night
I told Kiana to go lay with Zeke since he was wide awake still and it was a school night. I was working on my laptop and surfing the internet. I heard Kiana scream so I ran to the back of the house and opened the door as if there were an intruder. Zeke was laying there and I thought he must have been bugging her and she was tired of it but that wasn’t the case. I asked her what was wrong and she started to cry. She said she kept imagining the woman driver in the bedroom with her with the blood running down her face. She said the woman was talking to her and copying everything she said. Kiana was scared. I offered her to sleep on the couch or sleep on the floor in our bedroom for the night. She decided to sleep on our floor so I went and grabbed some cushions from chairs in our living room and made a little bed on my side. I tucked her in and before long she was fast asleep once again.
Life Must Go On
Well we were pretty awake after the woman crashed her car into our house. Adam watched the news and I played on-line for a while more. Once we were ready for bed we had to wake up Kai because he was still there sleeping. We let him sleep on the couch that night so he didn’t disturb Zeke in their bedroom. Right then I decided we would all sleep in except Zeke who needed to get on an earlier schedule so he can sleep at night. Off to dreamland we went.
