A Beautiful Beginning – Oaklyn’s Birth Story
A little back story.
Ashley and I quickly became friends after her first photoshoot she had with me.
We became crafting and scrapbooking buddies who both have a love for tea.
I have done at least five other photoshoots for her including the birth of her first son.
Baby Number Two is Almost Here
When Ashley found out she was having another baby and this time a girl she hired me again.
I loved being a part of Mason’s birth story and capturing all of the details so I
was pumped to photograph the birth and welcome baby Oaklyn into this world.
Time to be Induced
November 29 they started Pitocin at 9:30 this am.
Ashley was dilated to a 4 and around 4:30pm they broke her water!
I got to the hospital in Vancouver, WA at 6:45pm.
She was at a 4 when I arrived but it had been a while since she had been checked.
I walked the hall with her at 8pm and was sure she was at the point of the baby dropping into the birth canal.
Last family of three photo.
8:15 pm Mason and his grandma went home for the night to get rest.
8:20pm she was checked and at 5.5 and 75% effaced.
Her contractions were strong and getting very painful at this point.
8:40pm the doctor came in to administer the epidural.
I had to leave the room since you can only have one support person with you for that.
The epidural was in but there was a window on her belly the pain was still getting through.
It took a bit of time and turning her on her side but it finally evened out and she could relax.
10 pm Ashley is at a 10 and 100% effaced.
Happy dance time!
Time to start pushing.
Ashley did amazing and Oaklyn was born within 3 pushes.
Little Oaklyn was born at 11:10pm.
9 pounds 13 ounces and 21.5 inches long.
She had great Apgar scores both times and great coloring after her birth.
She enjoyed her first bath for a bit but quickly got tired of it.
Time for some much deserved rest for all three after an amazingly quick birth but longer labor.
I got a few last photos and then it was time for the three
of them to be moved to another room for the rest of their stay.
Time for me to go home
I went to McDonalds and grabbed some chicken strips.
Grabbed a tea and a water bottle from a mini mart.
There was no traffic and I made it home in 35 minutes.
Off to bed I went.
What a wonderful day to witness a new life enter this world.
I am blessed to have been asked to photograph another amazing birth.
Couldn’t be more thankful.
