Inktober 2018
Days 1-21
Inktober is a month long drawing challenge every October created by Jake Parker. Like the name Inktober implies you are to use ink on your drawings. I attempted the Inktober challenge last year for the first time and only got to day 22 but used Jane Davenports prompts instead of Jake Parkers. This year I decided to draw smaller pics with three or four to a page so I can keep up easier.
I am using my toned tan sketchbook that I used last year as well. I really enjoy how the lights pop off of the paper. I also am mainly using alcohol markers this year even though I have a ton of Bombay India inks and Dr PH Martins Irridescent inks too.
I decided to draw a viper which is a very venomous snake. I was hoping to have it stand out amongst the crowd.
Day 2: Tranquil
Seeing this word made me think of peaceful sleep so I drew Sleeping Beauty since she was under a sleep spell I figured that would be some amazing sleep.
Day 3: Roasted
At first thought I wanted to draw a pig being roasted over a fire but decided it was too much work for my timeframe and went with a marshmallow on a stick. It made me want to go camping. lol.
Day 4: Spell
I enjoy the Harry Potter films so that is what made me think of Harry casting a spell. My kids said he looks too old but oh well.
Day 5: Chicken
I knew that a lot of people would draw a chicken in its whole form so I went abstract with a bucket of KFC.
Day 6: Drool
Last year I drew Garfield for one of the prompts so it seemed fitting to add Odie and all of his drool this year. I almost went with Homer Simpson but Odie is much cuter.
Day 7: Exhausted
I googled images and saw this sleeping toddler and just laughed. Bingo! She is for sure exhausted.
Day 8: Star
With Donald Trump as our 45th president there has been a lot of negativity towards him. People have more than once destroyed his star on the Hollywood walk of fame. Never to fear it will keep being replaced.
The first thing that comes to mind is Lord of the Rings when I hear the word precious. Here is Gollum with the Ring that he so loved.
Day 10: Flowing
Waterfalls are always flowing so I chose Multnomah Falls which is about an hour drive from my home.
Day 11: Cruel
I love Starbucks shaken iced green tea so when I thought about spilling it or seeing it on the ground wasted I knew that would be cruel. hahhahahhahaha.
Day 12: Whale
The story of Jonah and the whale in the Bible is what came to mind with this prompt. Imagine how he must have smelled after his time in the belly of a whale.
Day 13: Guarded
This one was a little harder but with some thought I came up with the unknown soldier who is guarded 24/7 365 days a year.
Day 14: Clock
I just recently bought an Apple Watch 3 so thought what a great clock to draw.
Day 15: Weak
No one likes it when they have a weak cell signal. It happens far too often these days.
Day 16: Angular
I love giraffes. I had to google images for this prompt idea and really like how it came out with this animal.
Day 17: Swollen
A fun photo from a friend/clients maternity milk bath photo shoot I did.
Day 18: Bottle
After drawing a belly I knew a baby bottle would be perfect to kind of make a theme.
Day 19: Scorched
At first I was going to draw a forest half burned down but then remembered the cracked ground of a desert. I love the texture the cracks create from the hot sun so the desert won.
Day 20: Breakable
I thought the word was unbreakable first and I wanted to draw Stretch Armstrong. Instead I drew this vase that is very breakable.
Day 21: Drain
Super Mario for the win!
I am excited to be so close to being done with this challenge. Being able to say I completed it this time and the fun art I have for years to come.
Are you participating in Inktober also? What is your favorite part of this challenge?
Leave a link to where you share your work on-line in the comments. I would love to see it!
