How to make homemade butter
Tonight I tried my hand at making homemade butter again.
I tried last week but didn’t beat it long enough to separate.
Instead it turned out like whipped butter.
Tasted good but wasn’t what I was going for.
To start you will need:
A bowl
Hand mixer
Heavy whipping cream
Salt
Homemade butter step in easy to follow steps
In your bowl pour a nice amount of the heavy whipping cream in.
Make sure to not fill the bowl more than half way.
Take your mixer and turn it on low to start.
Mix the cream for about 3 minutes.
After 3 minutes you will see the cream starting to thicken.
Turn the speed up to medium and keep going.
You can now really see a difference in the cream thickness.
Turn the mixer up to high speed.
It should be getting nice and chunky at this point.
Turn off the mixer and use a fork to start pushing the
chunky parts to the side of the bowl so the liquid will
start to separate from the butter.
Wash your hands again.
Use your hands and grab the chunky bits and squeeze the liquid out of it.
Put it in a dry bowl.
Pour out the buttermilk in the sink or another bowl to save for a recipe like pancakes. 😉
Continue doing this until you have no more chunks in the mixing bowl.
Add a dash of salt if you like. Just a little at a time and mix it in.
Grab a spatula and press it into the butter to get even more liquid out.
Some people will also pour cold water into the butter bowl to firm it up
and squeeze the milk out more.
Refrigerate the butter.
Make some toast and enjoy your new homemade butter!!!
I would love to hear if you try this out and how it went!
Oh yeah…..
Quick tip
Do not use a $5 hand mixer you got on black friday.
Mine died on me right at the last mixing stage.
lol.
