Choosing our Perfect Backdrop for Family Photos
There is nothing like waiting till the last month of the year to get your family photos taken.
This year we wanted to have snow and a change of scenery.
We love to go up to Mount Saint Helens several times during the year so we chose it
to be the backdrop of our family photos.
Deciding on What to Wear
Originally I was wanting our outfits to be pink and blues with some whites but after last minute shopping
I found out that was not going to happen this time. lol. I found my sweater first and then shopped for Kiana.
Her sweater was just perfect and I wished I could fit into it too. hahaha. I then had to decide on the boys
outfits and decided blacks and grays would look great with my burgundy and Kiana’s pink sweater. I knew
that my hubby had a great shirt at home already so I didn’t bother buying another. Then I decided we
would wear a mix of black and grey pants to coordinate but not be too similar.
The weather that day was just amazing. Hardly a cloud in the sky and the sun was shining brightly.
Surprisingly it was in the fifties up there even though in Toutle, WA it was right around 33 degrees.
Yes that lead to us being blinded between the sun and the snow but it was worth it.
We started our photoshoot up at a look out that shows the mountain and all of it’s glory.
After we got some great photos there we drove a few miles down to Coldwater Lake.
Wow it was breathtaking with the water being still and the reflection of the mountains
clearly showing. I just love how they turned out.
There really wasn’t any snow at Coldwater lake so we started heading back towards the first location
and parked alongside the road at a great spot with pine trees and lots of snow. We finished off our
photoshoot with the fun props we brought along to get some playful photos of us and the three kids.
Plans for Next Years Family Photos
I plan for next years photoshoot to be in the hot summer so we can wear
shorts and dresses and enjoy being outside.
It is important for me as a photographer and mom to get our family
portraits taken annually by another professional.
Thank you to Jolene of Toutle River Creative for capturing us this year.
